Our very own Georgia Upjohn stars as our Client of the Month, as she prepares to undertake the mammoth task of cycling the United Kingdom in just ten days.
Starting at Land’s End, Cornwall, and finishing in John O’Groats, Scotland, Altitude Centre Performance Specialist Georgia will be taking on the challenge of 100 miles a day for 10 days this summer from 10th August.
Joined by five other cyclists, including her Dad, Georgia is cycling in aid of Vasculitis UK, the charity that supports sufferers of the autoimmune disease vasculitis.
Georgia’s brother Ben was diagnosed with Polyarteritis Nodosa, a rare branch of vasculitis, which is life-threatening. Put simply, vasculitis causes the body’s immune system to attack blood vessels instead of defending them against infection. Unfortunately for Ben, it took over four months for him to be diagnosed, which led to the disease attacking most of his body, including his brain. Ben is hopefully joining the ride, and is feeling confident about his ability to complete the distance.
By raising money for the charity, Georgia hopes that one day there will be a cure for the disease, and diagnoses will be far quicker. Vasculitis UK not only supports individuals and their families affected by the condition, but also funds research into the causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of the condition.
Not content with cycling 1000 miles, Georgia will also be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in July with Action Challenge, summiting via the Machame route.
